The April 27th webinar will cover the building envelope provisions of the Seattle and Washington state energy codes for commercial and multifamily buildings, highlighting requirements that are new to this year’s code and the differences between the Seattle and State codes. The 2021 Seattle Energy Code, taking effect this summer, includes significant changes to allowable glazing area, and introduces a partial requirement for triple glazing. Both the State and Seattle codes now require buildings to pass their air leakage tests. These topics, as well as balcony thermal breaks, C406 credits and more will be covered. Duane Jonlin, FAIA, will explain each of the code requirements, while special guest Nick McDaniel from NBBJ will explain what envelope designs will (and won’t) meet the new code, while Denali Jones from RDH shows what it will take to pass the new air leakage standard.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Reduce energy use and carbon emissions through optimal envelope design
  2. Identify significant new envelope-related code provisions
  3. Understand thermal bridging and envelope trade-off options
  4. Correctly apply code requirements to envelope alterations
  5. Ensure air leakage control solutions are effective
