This 2500 square foot log cabin marries a mixture of rustic and hi-tech lighting to achieve a well illuminated interior with an old-country appearance. A variety of incandescent fixtures were selected to work in concert with the all-wood interiors and northwest interior design. 24V MR16s are side-mounted on beams so that no more than one row of light is ever visible from any perspective.

Additionally, the voluminous ceiling is up-lit from hidden low voltage strip lights above the beams to enhance the spacious feel of the room. All surface, recessed and hidden lighting has been installed in a way to conceal all surface wiring - a challenge in a log cabin. A centralized dimming system allows many different scenes, from cozy fireside intimacy upstairs to energy-filled entertaining on the main floor.

Custom-built fixtures were specially designed to blend the unique aesthetic challenges of the log cabin with hand-crafted materials to give an old world look. The fixture vocabulary, consisting of low voltage halogen and 120V incandescent lighting, was developed to create strong ambient light levels, under cabinetry task lighting, and strategically placed accent lights to enhance spatial distinction.

The owners were very pleased with the grace and beauty of the cabin, particularly in the evenings when the clear, warm illumination brings the interior to life.
