The design for this residence began long before construction, as intense
coordination was required to light this upscale lodge-style home with
no recessed lighting and no exposed wiring, which is often required in
post and beam construction. This translated into customized installation
methods, such as the concealed channeled wireway on the top of the beam
and modified pendant mounting. All custom work was performed by a UL fabricator.
(Fig 2)
MR16 spot uplights accentuate the wooden columns and beams while the modern
touch of cantilevered picture lights adds a unique architectural balance
to the space.
(Fig 3)
150W quartz wallwash fixtures reflect warm tones off the ceiling, while
custom 60W incandescent wall sconces provide the appropriate light for
the hallways. MR16 spot lamps are mounted on monopoints concealed behind
the beams to light the artwork.
(Fig. 4)
Pendant lights were customized to wall mount in areas where there was
no accessibility for wiring in the ceilings.
(Fig. 5)
All lighting in the home is controlled with a total home lighting control
system, providing flexibility and variety in the balance of the various
layers of light.
(Fig. 6)
As the house in on a rise, the effect of beautifully lit wood ceilings
from no apparent source makes the home a lovely yet unostentatious showcase.
